How can massage help my horse?
|
- I compete regularly on my horse and want optimum performance and range of motion
- My horse does not feel quite right but the vet is unable to diagnose any lameness
- I have had saddle fitting problems in the past and want to ensure there is no residual discomfort
- My horse has been on box rest or suffered from an injury and is very stiff or uneven as a result
- I have some schooling issues, my horse is not working evenly on both reins, or generally feels very stiff
- My horse has had a fall or slipped and may have resulting muscle injuries
- My horse finds it difficult to relax and does not like being touched or groomed

What does the massage involve?
|
|
The session will start with an assessment of the horse standing and moving to identify any problem areas.
At the start work will be very gentle, as the horse should see the massage as a positive, enjoyable experience.
Then follows a very thorough check of the horse’s muscles and stress points where pain is often present.
Where muscles are tight and stiff, a series of techniques will be used to soften them and get the muscle to
release. Where the horse is sore, working with particular points can provide relief. The first session will take
about 2 hours with follow up sessions lasting about an hour. Please remember that alternative therapies should
never be used as a substitute for proper veterinary care.

How often are massage sessions needed?
|
If the horse has general stiffness then an improvement should be seen
straight away. If problems have been present for some time it may
take several sessions for the body to start working correctly.
Generally, top competition horses are massaged
weekly to keep them in optimum condition.
Horses in regular work are massaged every
few weeks until problems are resolved then
maintained with a session every couple of
months or as required. Follow up exercises
can also be given to the owner to keep the
horse supple. You can always book a massage
for your horse as a special treat!
